Download Freeware And Not Spyware!

Mar-9-2010 By Susan Reynolds

It costs nothing to download a freeware and hence it is downloaded by a number of people. Freeware is like any other software that can be downloaded from internet, but free. Every freeware is some kind of a utility providing some specific functionality to the user. It is not a rocket science to install the freeware. Simple read me files and user friendly installation wizards make it very easy to install them.

It is not uncommon to get a Spyware along with a freeware. You certainly get the freeware for free, but it can also come with a troublesome package with it. Downloading freeware with no recognition or authentication is a risky proposition. Spyware is very dangerous software to have in your PC. It is known to broadcast your important data to remote locations. You may end up sharing your passwords and other information with unknown people. It is therefore a very important thing to be careful before downloading any freeware. Following are some of the points that you must take into account before downloading and installing any freeware.

The first thing you must do is to check the credibility of the manufacturer. Try and survey about the other products developed by the company. A look at its track record will also be handy. Obviously, a reputed and known company would not develop Spyware.

You must do a rigorous research on the freeware product that you look to download. Many people must have shared their experiences on forums, blogs and other communities, about this freeware. This information would give you a lot of idea about the credibility and performance of the freeware. You must collect a lot of information and not get carried away by just one positive review. Only once you are satisfied with the review should you download it.

Visiting reputed website that offers software download is another good idea. Check to see if the website has listed the freeware you are interested in. A good and reputed website would not list a freeware that is malicious. If you manage to find the freeware on one or more such websites, you get a green signal. However, if you do not find it anywhere, the freeware could be suspicious and you may need to survey more.

Another important thing to do is to read the terms and conditions page very carefully. This page can give you a fair idea about the manufacturer and its credibility. Although one can not take these pages for granted, they can still give you a reasonable idea about the company.

In case you have decided to download the freeware onto your computer, make sure that you have a reliable anti Spyware installed on your system. The anti Spyware program can come to your rescue, just in case you have downloaded Spyware. You also need to make sure that you have a latest copy of anti Spyware installed. You could also install updates for your Spyware. An older version may not be able to identify a new Spyware.

On the whole, there is no harm installing a freeware if you can be careful doing it. Be smart enough to download only authentic freeware and you will always be on the safer side.

Before downloading your very own personal firewall software, you should know what a firewall exactly is and how some sort of program should be used to protect you and your computer in this era of technology. Firewalls perform like filters that filter the information being downloaded from the Internet to your computer.

Installing anti-virus software with a built in firewall security system is an absolute must for any computer system. The software protects the system against attacks that may be detrimental to it. The program may have predefined filters built into it, or one may even customize these filters as per the level of security required. Both the anti-virus software and the firewall security software are essential for any computer system.

If you want to download your own personal firewall from the Internet, which is the easiest way, the first thing you have to do is to find a website that offers you a firewall software package that will meet all your needs and budget.

When I think about the free software out there, I am urged to ask you the following question: Does a freebie sound like the route to go when it comes to keeping your important data safe and secure on your computer? My second question is: How much is it worth to you to obtain a piece of software that can achieve this goal for you? This isn’t a trick question, either. Knowing how much you are willing to spend makes it easier to see what is out there to accommodate your needs.

I will also suggest that you search for software that will let you have a trial period before you really buy it, with the reason being plain and simple that you want to be certain you get your money’s worth and the software is effective, just as it promises to be.

To help you select the best company that offers personal firewall solutions, visit sites that offer reviews about the top selling firewall software. This will give you a better understanding of the software and help you choose the one that is suited for your specific needs. Make sure that the company has a good reputation and allows you to download a free trial version of their personal firewall system.

It’s actually not complicated at all. You just have to find a system, which is simple to comprehend, then put it to use at once. It is crucial to safeguard yourself from the threat of malware and viruses that plague the web if you want to avoid becoming an unfortunate statistic. In today’s world of increasing Internet technology, you need to keep yourself informed of all the malicious software out there that is seemingly lurking behind every corner. In this article I’ll break down the basics when it comes to dealing with spyware when you encounter it.

First of all, many people confuse spyware with computer viruses. A virus is designed to specifically do damage to your computer, and many times reproduces itself and spreads through your email address list. In fact, it is called a virus as it spread just like a cold or any other illness. These are dangerous, and are only intended to do danger.

Spyware is software that by definition, collects your information with your knowledge. At best, these are controlled pieces of software knowingly put on your computer by your boss or your parents to monitor your computer activity. At worst, they are put there by anonymous third parties for a variety of purposes.

Advertising is their main objective, and the generation of revenue for the developers in something called pay per action. For example, if somebody includes a pay per action in a software that you downloaded, every time you click on a pop up advertisement, somebody gets paid. The way around this is to look for the “X” that is usually up in the corner. Software developers, however, are getting smarter, and sometimes hide that “X,” so you need to actually hover your mouse where you think it might be in order to see it. Some programs, which are incredibly frustrating, won’t offer the “X” until a few seconds have passed, literally forcing you to look at the advertisement.

Some spyware is actually helpful, and in many cases people don’t even consider it spyware. For example, many browsers will remember your login details for your favorite web sites, saving you the trouble of having to type them in each time. Other examples are tracking cookies, which are placed in your browser by web sites that require a log in, like in many of the popular free blogging sites on the Internet these days.

The best thing to do if you keep seeing those pesky pop ups is to disable the software, or simply uninstall it. And in the future, be very careful of downloading any software that claims is “free,” as many cases, this doesn’t turn out to be the case.

Some spyware is intended to pave the way for viruses, by changing your firewall settings. This kinds of blurs the line between spyware and viruses, so it pays to be very careful about ever accepting actions that you don’t recognize. Unless you know exactly what a pop up is asking you, always click on the “No,” or “Cancel” button. It goes without saying that you should always have a robust anti spyware program up and running to keep yourself safe.
