Yeah, it’s typically overkill and it uses up alot of processing power – but most firewalls cause those kinds of issues. If you have a router (which has a hardware firewall) and you are using windows firewall you’re extremely well protected, moreso than you think.
Odds are if you get hacked its going to be through a phishing scam (where people try to get you to click a fake link) or from someone downloading a virus – not from inadequate firewall protection.

I had that when i had vista, kept crashing my pc.
PCMichiana Said,
For most people having a software firewall is a bit overkill, but at my website under the Free Security Software you can download ZoneAlarm Free Edition.
MrBibi86 Said,
its great trust me, got a free standalone firewall besides windows firewall?
PCMichiana Said,
It ensures no spyware, viruses or adware is running in the background that may hinder the removal process.
Rafietech101 Said,

awesome it removed all Malware viruses thanks
PCMichiana Said,
Malwarebytes really isn’t an antivirus, it’s an antimalware, which is a removal tool of any kind of malicous software.
PCMichiana Said,
No you’ll want malwarebytes as a removal tool to run once a month or if you know you’ve become infected, as BlackHawk stated in response. It finds more than just viruses (which is what your antivirus tends to find).
BlackHawkTutorials Said,
@MrToad321 no no no no no, malwarebites is an AMAZING malware REMOVER, you want to download an ANTIVIRUS such as, AVG, avast, or avira (all of these are free), those have real time protection, you use malwarebites for removing viruses, you use an antivirus for preventing them from getting on your computer
MrToad321 Said,
oh okay
thx
so that means the free version of this is not good then..no point of having it if there’s no real time protection
tastyentertainment Said,
sadly there would be no idea to have 2 antivirus programs anyway, becouse i want to speed up my pc and i know that Symantec slows it down alot =S
BlackHawkTutorials Said,
@MrToad321 it means that it monitors your computer at all times, so if you are on the internet and you happen to come across a malicous website, then it will warn you and attempt to delete the virus
MartyniProductions Said,

MrToad321 Said,
what does real time protection mean?
PCMichiana Said,
It’s actually built into the Cyberlink PowerDirector software that I use for editing my videos.
TechManiaKid Said,

PCMichiana Said,
This is perfect for you then – because it doesn’t require you to uninstall your antivirus
