PC Diagnostic Tools Misconceptions

PC diagnostic tools can save you many headaches when trying to figure out what’s wrong with your computer. But there are some common misconceptions when it comes to using this type of software.

Misconception: One program is capable of finding any kind of problem and then fix them.

There is not one single software program that can diagnose every kind of problem with your computer. This is true also if you have several ongoing problems. If there are problems in your registry, or some kind of disk error, or if your hard drive is full, these require different kinds of programs to fix them. That is also true if you have some type of a virus in your boot sector, and any spyware that slows down your computer.

What diagnostic tools will do is find the cause of most errors and point the solutions out to you. You might want a separate program for something as complex as the registry, for instance, and an anti-virus/anti-spyware program to keep these problems at bay. Don’t think that one program is the perfect piece of software for every problem.

Misconception: Every problem is something I can fix with software.

There are some types of hard drive errors that occur that slow your computer down, and can also interfere with you being able to use some programs. While having one software program that could fix all kinds of hardware problems would be ideal, these types of problems usually need to be fixed by a professional.

You may have some hardware issues brought to your attention by troubleshooting software, like not enough RAM to keep your computer running efficiently. But someone will have to open up the case and add memory to fix the problem.

Misconception: Every piece of diagnostic software is safe to use.

Unfortunately, there is some software that is supposed to help you, but can actually cause problems, as it can contain spyware or may even contain a Trojan, which allows someone access to your computer. When it comes to the registry software or other pc diagnostic tools, only download and use those programs that come highly recommended to be safe and have been proven to work.
