Reasons to Keep Your Computer Clean and Organized
Here it is; the computer that you have always wanted. The manual tells you very little about why or how to use many of the programs on it. Make sure that you have a firewall, antivirus software, antispyware, and a good disk cleaning program. You may want to also get a good registry cleaner. Keeping your computer clean and free from old files is important in keeping it running fast and smoothly. Take all of the icons that you do not frequently use off of your desktop. Remove programs from the startup menu that do not have to be there. This helps the computer to start up faster.
Each website you visit places files on your computer. You need to clean these files out. This is what a disk cleaner will do. It searches for duplicate files, or files that are no longer needed or used by your computer. It cleans them off of your hard drive. These would include files from your temporary folders cookies and cache. This should be done daily or every few days depending on your computer use.
When you download and run a program, many files are left in temporary folders and other folders that you know longer need. Every website you visit leaves a file on your computer so you need to clean out the cookies and cache files. There are some good programs out there that will do this for you with just a few clicks. You can find them free or at a small cost. Make sure to keep all of your software up to date.
You should run a scan disk on your computer bi-weekly or monthly depending on how often you use your computer. It keeps files compressed and in the right areas of the hard drive to help your computer continue to run smoothly. If you have many files and programs on your computer this can take a few hours.
Remove programs that you do not use. Program files are often large and will take up space and can slow down your computer. If you think you might have a use for it later you should have a backup disk for it. It is just best to remove whatever you do not use.
Make sure to use the uninstall program on your computer do not just delete the folder. If you are unsure of what a program is, leave it alone until you find out, as you do not want to remove a program that your computer uses. If you follow these suggestions it should help you keep your computer in good working order.
