AVG anit virus,its free
Avira is a very good anti-virus with built it anti-spyware

Personally Id recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

The free version doesnt offer real time protection but regular scans should keep the PC clean. it really is excellent
Avoid Spybot S&D and Lavasoft AdAware as both of these use up massive amounts of memory
PC TOOLS
If its Windows, try AVG, they are the best I have found in the free for private use area. Better than most (if not all but theirs) paid packages.
